The Craig Jail Facility is operated and maintained by the City of Craig Police Department, serving all of Prince of Wales Island.

The jail is a State of Alaska Contract Jail Facility with five cells.  CJF is a short term holding facility but inmates may serve up to 20 day sentences without a waiver.  The facility averages approximately 20 bookings a month and an average of 1170 man days a year.

Craig Jail Facility Inmate Information

If you have been sentenced and ordered by the Alaska Court System to serve a specific amount of jail time in the Craig Jail Facility, the information below is to provided to help you through this process.

SCHEDULING JAIL TIME

Persons wishing to serve court ordered sentences must come into the Department to schedule their time.  At scheduling you will be provided with a list of facility rules which clearly list authorized and prohibited items.

You must have your jail time scheduled prior to the date ordered on your Court Judgment. You must complete or start your jail time within 60 days of your judgment date.  Failure to do either of the above could result in a warrant being issued for your arrest.   Sentences are served until completed.  The Craig Jail Facility does not allow sentences to be broken up or served on weekend periods only.


CHECK IN TIMES AND CONDITIONS

Persons scheduled to serve jail sentences at CJF will be allowed to check in at 11:00 am or 5:00 pm seven days a week.  Release times will be on a 24 hours basis and consistent with your check in time.

Inmates serving sentences at CJF may not consume any type of intoxicating beverage 12 hours prior to checking in.  Inmates suspected of consuming alcoholic beverages prior to check in will be required to submit to a breath test prior to booking.

Any inmate found to have consumed alcoholic beverages prior to checking in will be turned away and advised to check in the following day.  A second violation may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest for Failure to Serve Jail Time, at which time any suspended jail time could be imposed.  

Inmates are not allowed to park their vehicles in Craig PD'S parking lot while incarcerated

VISITING HOURS

Inmates serving sentences at CJF are allowed visitation with family and friends.  All visitors will be checked for recent convictions prior to visitation.  Visitation time is limited to 15 minutes and are non-physical contact visits.  Visiting hours are as follows:

Saturdays & Sundays        10:00 am - 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

PHONE USE

Inmates serving sentences at CJF are allowed two, 10-minute personal phone calls daily. 
Attorney calls are not included.  Cell Phones are not allowed in the facility.
